In an effort to research and disseminate CISG in Vietnam, Foreign Trade University (FTU) in cooperation with Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC); Vietnam Society of International Law (VSIL) and the Vietnam Business Lawyers Club (VBLC) hold the "Vietnam CISG Pre-Moot 2019". Inspired by the Vis Moot – a well-known international Moot held every year in Vienna (Austria) and Hong Kong, Vietnam CISG Pre-Moot is intended to provide a preliminary round for teams to practice before competing internationally. As a moot arbitration based on a dispute about an international sales contract, the contestants will learn about not only CISG provisions and how to apply them in dispute resolution but also can practice advocacy skills in English before an arbitral Tribunal including prestigious domestic and international experts. The Pre-Moot was launched in November 2018 and attracted the participation of more than 30 teams of students from universities across the country. After more than 3 months, the Pre-Moot has found 12 best teams from 8 universities nationwide, including Hanoi Law University, School of Law – Vietnam National University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Foreign Trade University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, University of Economic and Law Ho Chi Minh City, Law Faculty - National Economics University, Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam.
The Oral Hearings of Vietnam CISG Pre-Moot will take place in March 2nd and 3rd, 2019, where 12 teams will be divided into four groups. The best team of each group will be chosen for the Semi-final Hearings and the two winning teams in the Semi-final Hearings will meet in the Final Hearing held on Sunday afternoon, March 3, 2019. The Final Hearing will be open to the public with the participation of examination teams and arbitral Tribunal, representatives of the organizers, sponsors, prestigious experts in the field of international law as well as law students nationwide.
Vietnam Pre-Moot 201G CISG in general and its Oral Hearings in particular promises to creat an attractive, rewarding and professional playground for students across the country. With the mission to provide opportunities for law students to research on CISG and improve advocacy skills in English, the Pre-Moot promises to become an “incubator” where talents are discovered and developed. In this way, it is expected to contribute to the future generation of judges, arbitrators, lawyers, experts capable of participating in international litigation, thereby, meeting the demand for high-quality human resources in the context of global economic integration.
