1. Number of new cases handled by VIAC

In the year 2022, 292 new cases were filed and handled by VIAC. These figures represent 8.15% in comparison with that of 2021. Accordingly, in the period from 1993 to 2022, VIAC handled a total of 2,513 cases which domestic disputes accounted for 39.99% and disputes with foreign elements accounted for 60.01% (including disputes in which at least one party classified as Foreign direct investment enterprise).

2. Types of disputes

In 2022, VIAC has been handling a wide range of disputes. Notably, sale of goods representing a 37.5% remains the predominant type of dispute, accounting for the highest proportion of cases handled at VIAC. Regarding the breakdown of other dispute types, Construction and Finance & Banking are positioned as the second and third most prevalent categories, comprising 17.1% and 10.4% of the total cases, respectively. In addition, VIAC has resolved disputes spanning a wide spectrum of sectors, encompassing insurance, business cooperation, real estate, mergers & acquisitions, logistics, intellectual property, etc.

3. Geographical Origin of Parties

According to VIAC’s statistics, the disputing parties hailed from 61 of 64 provinces/cities in Vietnam and 64 nations and territories around the world. The majority of these disputing parties are from Asia (68.9%), Europe (17.4%), and America (9.3%).

In addition, China, Singapore, and Japan are the top 03 nations having parties arbitrating at VIAC in 2022. Specifically, disputes arising from these nations are mainly in areas of international sales of goods, construction, and finance. Besides, China, Singapore, along with South Korea, the United States and Germany are also the top 05 (five) foreign users at VIAC in the period 1993 – 2022.

Geographical Origin of Parties

In 2022, Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi are the cities with the highest number of new cases filed and handled by VIAC, accounting for 59.19% and 27.8% of total cases, respectively. Furthermore, VIAC also handled cases from provinces/cities across Vietnam with Binh Duong, Hai Phong, and Bac Ninh ranking among the top 05 (five) provinces/cities apart from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
