On October 12th 2018, Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London Branch and a Cooperation Agreement (CA) with the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), a division of the American Arbitration Association (AAA) as part of the opening ceremony for the Introduction to International Arbitration Course, hosted by VIAC and CIArb, London and sponsored by ICDR at Deutsche Haus Building, Ho Chi Minh City.
The signing of the MoU with CIArb, London is considered VIAC’s first step in international cooperation in the field of professional training and education of international arbitrators and dispute resolution practitioners. The MoU is expected to generate more quality and qualified training courses at international standards on par with the Introduction to International Arbitration Course for Vietnam’s lawyer communities as well as the legal practitioners in the near future, which is believed to greatly aid in improving such communities’ capacity in utilizing international arbitration as an advanced means to resolve commercial and investment disputes.
The signing of the Cooperation Agreement establishes an official bridge between VIAC and ICDR/AAA, allowing the two institutions to directly exchange information, organize joint events as well as publications in the field of commercial arbitration, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution. The CA reaffirms VIAC’s position as the most prolific and proactive arbitration institution in Vietnam. VIAC restlessly extends its international links in order to keep pace with the latest development in international arbitration with a view to maintaining VIAC’s position as the most prestigious arbitration centre among the business community, providing arbitration services at international standards and resolving disputes with transparency – friendliness – effectiveness.
