In 2021, VIAC handled 270 new dispute cases, marking an approximately 21% increase compared to 2020. Among these, domestic disputes accounted for 42.7%, disputes involving FDI element made up 39.2%, and disputes with foreign elements constituted 18.1%.

2. Types of disputes
The disputes handled by VIAC in 2021 covered a wide range of sectors. Sale of Goods (44.4%), Services (27.8%), and Construction (18.9%) remained the top three sectors with the highest number of disputes at VIAC. Disputes resolved at VIAC also arose from various other fields, including Insurance, Logistics, Mergers & Acquisitions, Auditing, and Intellectual Property, among others.
3. Geographical Origins of Parties
Statistics show that disputing parties at VIAC came from 59 out of 64 provinces and cities in Vietnam. Regarding international disputes, parties originated from 64 countries and territories worldwide, the majority of which are from Asia (68.9%), followed by Europe (17.4%) and the Americas (9.3%).

4. Dates of Arbitration Agreements for cases at VIAC
According to VIAC’s statistics, all arbitration agreements for cases filed in 2021 has been established as a clause in contracts. Besides, disputes arising from contracts entering into force in 2019 and 2020 particularly accounted for nearly 50% of new case filings.
