VIAC organized the 2024 Meeting of VIAC-listed Arbitrators in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

On September 25th and October 4th 2024, Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) organized the 2024 Meeting of VIAC-listed Arbitrators in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. The meeting was conducted to tend to feedback from the Arbitrators regarding VIAC’s activities, on the occasion of Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh being unanimously appointed and elected as President of VIAC for the 2022 – 2027 term on August 8th 2025.

At the meeting, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh - the newly-elected President of VIAC delivered his commencement speech, extending his greetings towards the arbitrators and expressing his high appreciation for their companionship and immense support with regards to VIAC’s activities over the years. As someone who has been with VIAC since its early days, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh also noted that in over 30 years of operation, VIAC has continuously strived to upgrade and improve its dispute resolution services through arbitration, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods in accordance with the law. Moreover, VIAC has actively implemented initiatives to promote the development of arbitration, mediation, and ADRs in Vietnam. To achieve these aims, VIAC highly values the input, contributions, and cooperation of the listed arbitrators in both dispute resolution activities as well as efforts to further develop arbitration and mediation in Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Hanh also added that, in the context of arbitration and mediation continuing to be the trends and favored methods internationally, especially in cross-border commercial activities, the swift completion of our legal framework should be prioritized. VIAC is currently actively involved in the review and amendment of the Law on Commercial Arbitration and has submitted proposals and reports to the National Assembly Standing Committee to include the Law on Commercial Arbitration in the legislative development and improvement plans. This highlights VIAC’s determination to promote the development of a comprehensive legal framework, facilitating arbitration and mediation to grow exponentially in the near future.

On behalf of VIAC Council, Mr. Tran Huu Huynh – Former President of VIAC shared that, over the years of operation, VIAC has consistently upheld its spirit and goal of becoming a solid legal support system for businesses, providing effective dispute resolution methods, and contributing to the maintenance of a transparent investment and business environment in Vietnam. He expressed confidence that, under the leadership and guidance of the new President – Prof. Dr. Lê Hồng Hạnh, VIAC will continue to maintain its strength and uphold the core values and foundation it has built over the years.

Following that, Mr. Vu Anh Duong – Permanent Vice President cum Secretary General of VIAC welcomed and expressed VIAC’s openness to the arbitrators’ contributions to its activities.

He noted that VIAC has been and will continue to acknowledge ideas and proposals from the arbitrators to continually improve and enhance the quality of arbitration proceedings at VIAC. He also provided updates on the organization of dispute resolution activities in recent times and shared plans for developing services that support dispute resolution in the future. In particular, Mr. Duong emphasized the ongoing digital transformation within VIAC’s arbitration activities, including the development and launch of the E-filing and Online Case Management Platform – VIAC eCase. He highlighted that the success of this digital transformation and the application of technology in dispute resolution will require the collaboration and support of the arbitrators in the coming time.

In addition to the insights shared by VIAC representatives, the meeting also served as an opportunity for VIAC to tend to feedback from the arbitrators regarding its activities. These contributions not only provide ideas but also act as motivation for VIAC to diversify its initiatives in the upcoming time
