On the morning of April 21, 2026, at the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), the delegation led by Ms. Gujie Yuan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Committee, and President of the Guangdong Law Society, together with other members of the delegation, visited and had a working session with VIAC representatives to discuss collaborative opportunities.

Overview of the meeting
Attending the meeting on behalf of VIAC were Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC, Mr. Vu Anh Duong – Vice President cum General Secretary of VIAC and other members from VIAC’s professional units. From the Guangdong Delegation were Ms. Gujie Yuan and other delegation members.
Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh welcomed the delegation from Guangdong Province, China, for visiting and conducting cooperation exchanges at VIAC headquarters. He expressed that this was an occasion for both sides to exchange insights, share experiences, and evaluate the practice of dispute resolution activities in Vietnam specifically and in the region generally. Regarding VIAC’s activities, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh stated that VIAC and its affiliated entities – including the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC) and the Vietnam Institute for International Arbitration Research and Training (VIART) — always aim to build a diverse and solid ADR ecosystem to create a foundation and favorable conditions for the development of alternative dispute resolution methods in Vietnam.

On behalf of the Guangdong Provincial Delegation, Ms. Gujie Yuan sent respectful greetings and highly appreciated the opportunity to meet and lay the first foundations for cooperation with VIAC. She emphasized Guangdong's leading position as the economic locomotive of China, possessing a dynamic market and top-tier GDP scale. Accompanying that strong economic development is the breakthrough of the legal services and commercial arbitration ecosystem, which plays a key role in protecting the rights of investors.
Specifically, she highlighted the roles of Guangzhou and Shenzhen as nuclear cities that are not only global financial and technology centers but also models for innovation in providing legal services. In these cities, international arbitration and ADR activities have achieved remarkable progress, becoming trusted destinations for both domestic and cross-border transactions. In her capacity as President of the Guangdong Law Society, she expressed expectations that VIAC and legal organizations in Guangdong would strengthen connections and share experiences in building leading regional and global dispute resolution centers. This cooperation is intended not only to support businesses from both sides but also to contribute to enhancing the international standing of the regional commercial judicial system.

Continuing the meeting, Mr. Vu Anh Duong – Vice President cum General Secretary of VIAC shared a summary of statistics and some highlights of VIAC's activities. Over more than 30 years of operation, VIAC has resolved thousands of disputes in diverse fields with the participation of parties from many different countries. Among these, disputes involving parties from China lead the nationalities of disputes at VIAC, primarily in sectors such as import-export, construction and infrastructure, banking and finance, and manufacturing. He also introduced dispute resolution activities through mediation at VMC and the context of commercial mediation development in Vietnam.

Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Cooperation between the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) and the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission (GZAC)
To mark a new step in the development of bilateral cooperation, VIAC and the Guangzhou Arbitration Commission (GZAC) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). According to the agreement, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination in introducing and encouraging the business community and economic entities to include VIAC and GZAC arbitration clauses in commercial contracts, simultaneously promoting the organization of professional conferences and seminars to spread awareness and practical knowledge of arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods.
Additionally, VIAC and GZAC aim to maintain a regular exchange mechanism for updating laws, precedents, and new global and regional arbitration trends. Notably, the cooperation emphasized promoting the application of technology, fostering the development of online arbitration, and introducing reputable experts to each other's arbitrator lists. Thereafter, these efforts aim to improve professional quality and strengthen business trust in Arbitration and ADR for resolving cross-border disputes, especially between Vietnamese and Chinese businesses.

The working session took place in an open atmosphere with shared perspectives, reaffirming the commitment of both sides to strengthen professional cooperation and promote friendly, transparent, and effective dispute resolution mechanisms.
