
Attending the meeting on behalf of VIAC were Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC, Mr. Vu Anh Duong – Vice President cum General Secretary of VIAC and other members from VIAC’s professional units.

At the working session, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC welcomed the delegation of the Association to the VIAC headquarters and expressed appreciation for their visit and discussions on potential cooperation. Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh emphasized that this occasion provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange insights, share experiences, and assess practical developments in dispute resolution in Vietnam in particular and in the region in general. Regarding VIAC’s activities, Prof. Dr. Lê Hồng Hạnh noted that VIAC and its affiliated entities, including the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC) and the Vietnam Institute for International Arbitration Research and Training (VIART), strive to build a diverse and robust ecosystem for ADRs. This aims to create a solid foundation and favourable conditions for the development of alternative dispute resolution methods in Vietnam.

Continuing the meeting, Ms. Vu Thi Hang - Deputy Director of Secretariat of VIAC provided an overview of key statistics and notable highlights in VIAC’s operations. Over more than 30 years of activity, VIAC has handled thousands of disputes across a wide range of sectors, with the participation of parties from numerous countries. On behalf of the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC), Mr. Phan Trong Dat – Acting Director of VMC, also introduced the Centre’s mediation activities and discussed the broader context of the development of commercial mediation in Vietnam.

On behalf of ACLA, Mr. Trinh Thu Thai – Vice President of ACLA, provided an overview of the Association. Established in 1985, the Association now comprises of 883,000 lawyers and more than 20 functional departments. It plays an important role in supporting the Chinese Government in law-making and implementation, promoting judicial reform, and advancing the legal profession. On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-China diplomatic relations (January 18th, 1950 – January 18th, 2025), he emphasised the long-standing tradition of close and multilateral cooperation between the two nations.
Mr. Thai expressed his admiration for the scale and effectiveness of VIAC’s operations, particularly noting that 28.22% of its cases involve international disputes and 19.72% involve at least one foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprise, with Chinese enterprises ranking first among foreign parties in VIAC cases. He also highly appreciated the active and professional participation of Chinese arbitrators and mediators at VIAC.
Following this, Mr. Khuong Quoc Dong – Deputy Secretary-General of ACLA and Secretary-General of the Belt and Road Legal Services Forum, stated that the Forum is promoting cross-border legal cooperation through a network of lawyer organisations and dispute resolution bodies across economies along the economic corridor. With many leading international arbitration centres located in China, he underscored the significant potential for closer cooperation between VIAC and regional legal mechanisms, especially in international commercial dispute resolution.

Overview of the meeting
The meeting concluded in an open and cordial atmosphere, with multiple perspectives exchanged, reaffirming both sides’ commitment to strengthening professional cooperation and promoting friendly, transparent, and effective dispute resolution mechanisms. This, in turn, contributes to reinforcing economic and legal relations between Vietnam and China in the new phase of development.
