MoU Signing Ceremony between VIAC and DAV & Opening Ceremony of the DAV Moot Court Competition 2025

On the afternoon of December 8, 2025, at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV) took place, attended by Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin – Vice Director of DAV, witnessed by representatives of both institutions. Following the signing ceremony, the DAV Moot Court Competition 2025 was officially launched, marking the beginning of a series of professional cooperation activities between the two parties.
 

Overview of the Signing Ceremony

Attending the ceremony on behalf of the Academy were Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin –  Vice President; Dr. Trinh Hai Yen – Lecturer of the Faculty of International Law, VIAC’s Arbitrator; M.A. Tran Huu Duy Minh – Vice Dean of the Faculty of International Law; along with representatives several departments of the University and partner organisations. The event also welcomed 32 teams participating in the 2025 Moot Court Competition.

Representing the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) were Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC; Mr. Vu Anh Duong – Vice President cum Secretary General of VIAC; Mrs. Tran Bao Ngoc – Deputy Director of Promotion and Training Department of VIAC; Ms. Vu Thi Hang – Deputy Director of Secretariat of VIAC, together with other members from VIAC’s professional units.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thin – Vice President of DAV emphasized that the cooperation between the two institutions is significant for implementing the Academy’s development strategy, especially in the context of international integration. She expressed her hopes for practical, effective, and diverse cooperation activities in the future. She highly appreciated VIAC’s role and believed that with a team of more than 200 domestic and international arbitrators handling nearly 500 disputes annually, VIAC would bring practical value to the Academy.

In response, Prof. Dr. Le Hong Hanh – President of VIAC, expressed his confidence that this cooperation would go beyond signing and be realised through practical activities. He also shared that VIAC is always ready to accompany and support the Academy in achieving its teaching goals, particularly in providing knowledge and skills related to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) methods for faculty members and students.

Through this agreement, VIAC and DAV will cooperate in research, training, and developing practical skills in arbitration and ADR. According to the MoU, the two parties will jointly organise seminars and professional workshops; conduct domestic and international research projects; and develop teaching materials and resources for training activities. VIAC will send experts to teach and share professional experiences, while DAV will send faculty, students, and trainees to participate in activities organised by VIAC. They will also coordinate the organisation of arbitration advocacy competitions, research competitions, and consider internships for DAV students at VIAC if they meet professional requirements. The MoU affirms the shared goal of DAV and VIAC to enhance the capacity of students, trainees, and legal professionals in arbitration and ADR, thereby contributing to improving Vietnam’s legal, investment, and international economic integration environment.

 

During the ceremony, VIAC and DAV presented commemorative gifts in honour of the signing event.

After the signing, the opening ceremony of the DAV Moot Court Competition 2025, themed “International Investment Arbitration”, took place. Following the success of the first edition, this competition continues to provide a professional academic environment, enabling students to practice advocacy skills, logical reasoning, and the application of legal knowledge to practical scenarios. This year, the competition brought together 32 teams with over 140 participants from all academic cohorts (49th–52nd) of the Faculty of International Law. The competition also received professional support from VIAC, enhancing both the academic quality and practical relevance, aligning with the Academy’s goal of integrating theory with practice.

The cooperation agreement between VIAC and DAV is expected to open up new opportunities, enhance the effectiveness of training and research activities, and contribute to improving the capacity for resolving commercial disputes through arbitration and mediation – methods that are increasingly important in today’s modern economy.
